Why am I getting an "Access Denied" error message when using the library remotely?

Only current students, faculty, and staff are able to access databases and other subscription content remotely. If you are a new or returning student and you are getting this error after attempting to log-in with your Regis login, it is most likely an indication that your Regis account permissions need to be updated. Contact the university's Information Technology Services (ITS) department at 303-458-4050 or via their online service portal to request your permission be updated for remote library access.

I'm an alumnus/alumna of Regis. Can I use the library's databases and digital collections remotely?

No, remote access to Regis Library subscription databases and collections is limited to current students, faculty, and staff. This is largely due to the contractual limitations imposed by our information vendors. That said, we can often provide a digital copy for any single article available in our system. Information needs that extend beyond just a single journal article are often best addressed by using the interlibrary loan system at your local public library. More information for alumni services are available on the Alumni Research Guide.

How do I find company financial information?

249 views   |   0 Vote this question as useful.   0 Vote this question as not useful.   |   Last updated on Aug 18, 2022    research business

Regis Library subscribes to Mergent Online. It is located on the Business Research GuideCorporate Financials.

Mergent Online provides company information for publicly traded companies. Simply type in the name of the company you are interested in researching in the Company Search field. For example, if you are interested in researching coffee shops like Starbucks, you can simply type in Starbucks of their ticker symbol (SBUX).

Toggling between tabs will help you find relevant data about your company including Company financials – Ratios. When you click on the different tabs, a subset of tabs will appear for more options to search. In the “Company financials” tab you gain access to a company’s Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Retained Earnings, & Cash Flow Statements. Simply click on the drop-down menu for “Balance sheet” and select which report you want and click “Refresh.” Notice you can also select how many years back reported you want to review.

Company ratios are also available in the subset of choices under “Company profiles.”

What is a S.W.O.T. analysis and where can I find them?

233 views   |   0 Vote this question as useful.   0 Vote this question as not useful.   |   Last updated on Aug 18, 2022    research business

S.W.O.T stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. You may have an assignment requiring you to analyze a company to create a S.W.O.T. report. A S.W.O.T. analysis combines various key performance indicators e.g., branding, R & D, competitive pressures, regulations, strategic initiatives, broad product portfolio, supply chain disruptions – to determine a company’s overall health and competitive position. These measures will help you fill out the four quadrants of a S.W.O.T. analysis.

Business & Management databases like Business Source Complete and Business Insights: Global index S.W.O.T. reports in their collection. That is not to say you will simply copy and paste their content into your analysis but if you do use some of that information, be sure to cite your source.

Simply go to either Business Source Complete or Business Insights: Global from the Business Research guide – Articles navigation tab located on the left-hand side of the page.

I will use La-Z-Boy or LZB (ticker symbol) for this example. If you perform a keyword search either using “La-Z-Boy” or “LZB” in Business Source Complete, a S.W.O.T. report will populate when using “La-Z-Boy” (without quotes). If you simply use “LZB” a number of other useful resources will populate including trade publications, newspapers, and magazines. These will also be useful if your company does not have a S.W.O.T. report in a database. I always recommend using a competitor’s S.W.O.T. report (if available) if your primary company is not available. This will give you an idea of what key performance indicators are analyzed in order to create a report.

Does the library provide assistance with legal research?

228 views   |   0 Vote this question as useful.   0 Vote this question as not useful.   |   Last updated on Dec 07, 2023    research

Yes, Research and Instruction Librarians at the Regis Library can assist patrons with basic legal research including searching for federal and state cases, legislative searches, and business licensing/regulatory searches. However, our resources for legal research are relatively few compared to most law school libraries. For more advanced legal research, we recommend contacting a library associated with a nearby law school (e.g. University of Denver, CU-Boulder, etc.).

We do not provide legal advice or counsel.

May I renew interlibrary loan (ILL) items?

224 views   |   0 Vote this question as useful.   0 Vote this question as not useful.   |   Last updated on Dec 07, 2023    access/borrowing ILL

The lending library determines whether or not the materials you borrow may be renewed, and that status will be indicated on the ILL band attached to each item. Prospector books may be renewed once via telephone, e-mail, or through the “My Library Account” link in Lumen, the Regis Library catalog, provided another patron is not waiting for the item. Late return of materials jeopardizes the ability of our library to borrow from other libraries in the future, so please return materials by the due date.

Please leave the ILL band attached to each item. You may be assessed a fine if the band is removed.

What is the best library database to use when starting my research?

We recommend LumenPlus for most topical keyword searches for articles, books, magazines, and other published papers. LumenPlus integrates most, but not all, of the libraries 260+ individual databases in one searchable interface. Coverage across nearly all subjects is good in LumenPlus, but there are occasions when you will be better served searching one of the subject specialized databases as listed on the subject and course research guides.

How do I find industry ratios?

209 views   |   0 Vote this question as useful.   0 Vote this question as not useful.   |   Last updated on Aug 18, 2022    research business

Regis Library subscribes to a database called IBISWorld. It is located on the Business Research GuideIndustries.

For example, if you are looking for industry wide ratios for Breweries in the U.S. simply type in the keyword “breweries” in the “Start Your Search Here” search box located on the IBISWorld landing page.

The auto-populated search will provide a list of various industries from 44531 - Beer, Wine, & Liquor Stores in the U.S. to 31212 - Breweries in the U.S. Go ahead and select the industry and a report will populate with valuable information from Industry Performance, Competitive Landscape, to “Key Statistics” located on the left-hand column under Navigation.

Not only will you find data going back ten years but 3-10 projections with the option to search various Asset Classes. Each table can be downloaded as well as the entire Industry Report for the particular industry.
