A persuasive article is a type of writing where the author seeks to persuade or convince readers to adopt a specific position, take a specific course of action, or change their perspective on a particular issue. Persuasive articles are commonly found in newspapers, magazines, websites, and opinion columns.
To find a persuasive article, you must first identify a topic. Persuasive articles often address controversial topics in politics, health and medicine, technology, economics, and more. Once you have selected a topic, identify keywords that describe the topic. You may then use these keywords to search library resources for articles that seek to persuade readers to adopt a particular point of view.
LumenPlus on the Library’s homepage is a great place to start your search for persuasive articles. Once you have decided on your key words, you can start a search with LumenPlus. When you are on the page displaying your search results, you will be able to refine your search by selecting search filters. When looking for persuasive articles, it can be helpful to limit your search by clicking "All filters," going to "Source Types," and selecting "News" and "Magazines." This will limit your search results to include only those source types, increasing the likelihood that you will find a persuasive article relevant to your topic. It can also be helpful to filter by date to retrieve only articles from the past 12 months. If you get stuck at any point, don't hesitate to reach out for help!
